Following the death of his wife, psychiatrist Jimmy Laird (Jason Segel) struggles to cope with his loss. For the last year, he’s been an absentee dad to his teenage daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell) and he’s shut out his best friend Brian (Michael Urie). Liz (Christa Miller),
Jimmy’s overbearing neighbor, steps in to help but her concern only grows as Jimmy continues to spirals downward.

Stunted by grief and overwhelmed by listening to his patient’s drone on, Jimmy snaps and decides to shift gears in his treatment style. His boss, Paul Rhoades (Harrison Ford), warns against his unorthodox tactics but changing course
with his patients may just be what Jimmy needs to work through his own grief.
