Marathon man upped, Zodiak remodels

Zodiak Media Group (ZMG) has promoted Marathon Media CEO Vincent Chalvon Demersay to a company-wide strategic role as it reshapes its business.

Chalvon Demersay will become chief strategy officer of Zodiak Media, which is dropping the ‘Group’ part of its name following a financial restructure.

The French exec will remain CEO at Marathon, the Paris-based prodco behind kids’ shows Redakai – Conquer the Kairu, Gormiti and Totally Spies.

Marathon’s general manager David Michel has also gained another role as Zodiak Media’s senior VP of group marketing. The appointments both come after Zodiak established a London-based creativity and innovation arm lead by Cathy Rogers last year.

Zodiak Media now comprises 45 companies worldwide and programmes include The Inbetweeners, Secret Millionaire and Being Human.

The company has traded under ZMG for 14 months after changing its name from Zodiak Entertainment following the acquisition of UK-based superindie RDF Media in June 2010.

The latest tweak comes after the company recently refinanced its banking arrangements in local markets to bring control of group finances under one syndicate of Paris-based banks.

“The new identity and the key appointments announced today underline the successful integration of Zodiak Media’s component parts and our ambitions for its future development,” said Zodiak group CEO David Frank.

He added the refinancing would be “a key ingredient” in future development. “Our aim is to allow each of our producers to express their creative talents individually while being empowered by the scale and power of our combined activities.”

The company has recently been linked to a potential buy-out of Entertainment One. Frank declined to comment when contacted by C21.
