Mansfield tries on Plimsoll in US

Plimsoll Productions, the fledgling UK indie launched by former Zodiak USA chief Grant Mansfield, will open a US office this spring.

Based in Santa Monica, LA, the office will be overseen from abroad by Mansfield and former Discovery Channel exec Andrew Jackson, who joined Plimsoll in August as exec VP of international production with responsibility for the firm’s US expansion strategy.

Plimsoll was recently commissioned by UK broadcaster ITV to produce reality series Big Family Mansion and will now shop that format to US broadcast and cable networks from this week.

The series, which airs this year, brings different generations of a family under one roof to test how they cope with multi-generational living.

Mansfield launched Plimsoll in September last year, opening offices in Bristol and London. The firm focuses on reality and wildlife programming for UK and US broadcasters and recently produced the Hugh Dennis hybrid comedy format You Should See My Family for the BBC.

Both Mansfield and Jackson have US TV experience. Mansfield was CEO of RDF USA and subsequently Zodiak USA, while Jackson was exec VP of production and development of landmark series and specials at Discovery Channel.
