Maker Studios tries scripted drama

YouTube multi-channel network Maker Studios, which last week agreed a takeover deal with Disney, has partnered with fashion and lifestyle brand Nylon TV on its first scripted drama series.

Oh, You Pretty Things! is the first drama to originate from the partnership between Maker Studios and Nylon TV, which will see the pair collaborate on original online programming.

The 10-episode series follows a group of 20-something trendsetters looking to make their big break in the underground music and fashion scene on the east side of LA.

The two companies are working on the series with We Put Out Entertainment. It will debut on May 19 on Maker’s fashion and beauty network The Platform.

Maker Studios, which describes itself as the world’s largest provider of online video content for millennials, last week insisted that its takeover by the Walt Disney Company will go ahead despite a last-minute rival bid from Relativity Media.

“The [Disney] agreement has been approved by Maker Studios’ board of directors and the majority of its shareholders and is expected to close in the next few weeks, subject to regulatory approval,” the company said.
