Madden to exit AMC after rejig

AMC Networks is merging its AMC Studios operation into its entertainment networks group in a restructure that will see David Madden leave the company.

Madden, president of programming for the entertainment networks group and AMC Studios, will step down later this month.

The restructure will bring AMC’s production business under the leadership of Sarah Barnett, president of the entertainment networks group for AMC Networks, and closer to the networks for which it produces nearly a dozen current series.

The entertainment networks group encompasses the company’s four scripted networks – AMC, BBC America, SundanceTV and IFC – plus AMC Premiere, the premium, ad-free version of AMC.

Barnett said the restructure would mean “the people making our celebrated series are more closely coordinated with the marketing, scheduling and publicity teams who connect our shows to passionate fans.”

Madden, who joined AMC in 2017 after leaving his role as president of entertainment at US network Fox, said he would focus on new opportunities in the “rapidly expanding content space.”

Series Madden worked on during his time at AMC include The Walking Dead, Better Call Saul, Killing Eve, Lodge 49, NOS4A2, The Terror and Dispatches From Elsewhere.
