M-Net raises Whitley

South African pay TV broadcaster M-Net has acquired OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network unscripted shows from distributor GRB Entertainment, including documentary series Raising Whitley.

The programme, from LA-based Pilgrim Studios, follows comedian Kym Whitley and her friends as they attempt to raise a child together. M-Net has taken two seasons of the show.

The firm has also acquired two runs of Deion’s Family Playbook, the real-life story of the only pro athlete to play in both a Super Bowl and a World Series, as well as one-off special Knight Life with Gladys (1×60’).

M-Net has also acquired documentary series Blackboard Wars (6×60’), about a high school tarnished by violence and failing academic performance; Flex & Shanice; 2 Fat 2 Fly; and two seasons of Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s.

US-based GRB secured global distribution rights to the shows in April.
