Looking for a natural history hit

UK’s HIT Wildlife is set to unveil a phalanx of blue-chip one-hour specials, including the documentary Ghosts of Makgadikgadi (w/t).

Ghosts of Makgadikgadi follows the struggle for survival of a brown hyena mother and her young pups in Botswana’s desolate salt pans as seen through the eyes of two young researchers. The show is lensed and produced by Peter Lamberti.

Other slate highlights – which will make their first outing at MIPCOM – include Bears Behind Bars, Life on the Edge: Down Under and Sloth – The 7th Deadly Sin. The last, a Naturfilm Studio Hamburg production, looks at the life of the long-haired, slow-moving edentate, a native of the South American rainforests.

With its harrowing footage, Bears Behind Bars focuses on the plight of the animals in Japan today and the growing campaign to improve the ursine lot.

Life on the Edge, meanwhile, explores the natural wildlife of the Dampier islands, including undiscovered octopus, humpback whales and sharks, and the modern industrial developments that are impacting on the delicate ecological balance.

Nomads in Space also makes its market bow. The 60′ special, to which HIT retains worldwide rights outside of Germany, offers a portrait of Kazakhstan, the tenth largest country on earth which combines a rich natural history with dramatic landscapes.
