Longmire rides back to A&E

A&E in the US has renewed its original Western drama Longmire for a second season.

The show, produced by Warner Horizon Television, debuted at the beginning of June with 4.2 million viewers, making it the cable network’s biggest ever premiere for a scripted series.

Longmire follows the story of a Wyoming sheriff who returns to work following the death of his wife and must solve a series of crimes while preparing to run for re-election.

The decision to renew the show came after just four shows of its 10-episode first season had aired.

Longmire marks the third Warner-produced series to be renewed in recent days, following new-season pick-ups of crime drama Rizzoli & Isles and soap Dallas from cablenet TNT.
