Llewelyn-Bowen show lands on Amazon

Design guru Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen fronts Laurence of Suburbia

SVoD service Amazon Prime has bought an interiors and decorating programme hosted by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen from UK factual entertainment prodco Formatzone.

Laurence of Suburbia is a six-part series in which Llewelyn-Bowen, best known from BBC lifestyle format Changing Rooms, travels the UK with a mission to make people fall back in love with their homes.

Amazon has picked up the SVoD rights to the show in Australia, Belize, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, Sweden and the UK.

In each episode, he creates a pop-up arena in a particular neighbourhood where members of the public are invited to share their inferior interiors and decorating disasters.

Llewelyn-Bowen selects one home to receive a makeover, with the transformation live-streamed to the arena audience.

Formatzone, which is producing the series with co-funding from Sky’s distribution arm Sky Vision, describes Laurence of Suburbia as “Top Gear meets Changing Rooms.”

“It’s a re-invention of the classic makeover led by the UK’s most charismatic expert. We’ve had an amazing response from neighbourhood’s all over Britain – and there are some very surprising rooms to watch out for,” said Formatzone CEO Mark Rowland.
