Lionsgate Play picks up BBCS dramas

Benedict Cumberbatch stars in Brexit: The Uncivil War

SVoD service Lionsgate Play in India has signed a content catalogue deal with BBC Studios (BBCS) providing it with five UK dramas.

The package includes Brexit: The Uncivil War, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, which delves into the Vote Leave campaign in the run-up to the UK’s European Union referendum in 2016. The 90-minute drama is produced by House Productions.

Also part of the deal is eight-episode drama Class, written by young-adult novelist Patrick Ness and set in the Doctor Who universe. Produced by BBCS, the series centres on a school and a group of four classmates-turned-unlikely-allies as they battle against an alien invasion.

SS-GB is based on a Len Deighton novel

Produced by BBCS and Lookout Point is the BBC’s adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic novel set in post-revolutionary France, Les Misérables. The miniseries stars Dominic West (The Wire) and Olivia Colman (The Crown).

Pure, meanwhile, is a comedy-drama series produced by Drama Republic and based on Rose Cartwright’s book of the same name. It centres on a young woman who moves to London for the first time and struggles to control her intrusive obsessive compulsive disorder.

The final show included in the deal is epic period drama SS-GB, produced by Sid Gentle Films. Based on Len Deighton’s 1978 novel, the series is set in an alternative history after the Germans have won the Second World War and a British detective finds himself working under the brutal SS in occupied London.
