Lionsgate, Nevision strike Oil

Mad Men producer Lionsgate and London-based producer and financier Nevision are partnering on a geo-political period drama set in the Middle East.

Oil has been created and written by Alan Whiting (Wire in the Blood, Heartbeat, Kingdom), Matthew Faulk and Mark Skeet (Vanity Fair, Sahara).

The eight-part thriller will be filmed in the Persian Gulf, Beirut, London and New York and is set in the Persian Gulf during the early 1970s.

The plot follows a powerful of community of expats who consider the ‘black gold’ under the desert theirs to take, only to discover they are sitting on a political powder keg.

Steve November, former ITV drama exec and now creative director of UK television for Lionsgate, said: “We are excited to be joining Nevision to tell this gripping and seductive story about the men and women who shaped the world as we know it now.”

Whiting, Faulk, Skeet and November will all executive produce along with Lionsgate’s head of development Sarah Conroy and Nevision’s Neil Zeiger and Sharon Bloom.

No broadcaster is yet attached to the project.
