Lionsgate lands 3Pas production deal

Lionsgate has signed a production deal with Latino specialist 3Pas Studios to create Spanish- and English-language series for the US studio’s television group.

The agreement will also see 3Pas create series for Lionsgate’s OTT service Pantaya, which launched last year.

It reinforces the existing relationship between Lionsgate and 3Pas, which includes a first-look feature film deal with Lionsgate’s Pantelion Films banner.

Eugenio Derbez, who created 3Pas with former Pantelion head of production Benjamin Odell, has starred in and produced Pantelion films Instructions Not Included and How to be a Latin Lover, as well as recent release Overboard.

“This multifaceted partnership is another example of working collaboratively across our divisions to identify premier brand name talent like Eugenio and Ben,” said Chris Selak, Lionsgate executive VP and head of worldwide scripted television.

The 3Pas tie-up comes at a time when Lionsgate has been adding to its Spanish-language output. Last month, Pantaya agreed a deal with Hollywood club Laugh Factory to launch a series of comedy specials titled Laugh Factory en Español.
