Lime signs GirlvsCancer’s Mahon

All3Media-owned UK production outfit Lime Pictures has signed a TV option deal with GirlvsCancer founder Lauren Mahon.

Lauren Mahon

Lime will work with campaigner Mahon to develop a fictionalised account of how her experience of cancer helped to change the dialogue around the disease and led to the formation of the GirlvsCancer community.

Mahon was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 31. Fed up with the perception that cancer is a disease for the over-50s, she decided to share the nuances of her battle under the hashtag #GirlvsCancer.

Her unapologetic tone and no-holds-barred approach to sharing her experience has changed the way people perceive cancer and continues to open the dialogue on this sensitive subject via her multi-award-winning podcast You, Me and The Big C.

Louise Sutton, Lime’s head of drama and young adults, said: “Lauren is a brilliant woman and her GirlvsCancer movement has brought together a community of people seeking connection with like-minded souls. We are delighted to be working on bringing Lauren’s unique brand of humour and incredible story to the screen.”

Mahon said: “I still cannot quite believe that a fictional version of my story is being brought to the screen. I didn’t think anyone would give a shit about another young girl with boob cancer, but in hindsight it’s a pretty impressive tale to tell. I’m incredibly proud of the work I have done since diagnosis and am elated to be working with Louise and all the talented team at Lime – what is life?! ”
