Lime Pictures sets up kids’ division

All3Media-owned UK production outfit Lime Pictures is launching a children’s division and promoted two executives to run it.

Angelo Abela

Angelo Abela and Tim Compton are both being upped to the newly created position of joint head of kids, reporting to joint MDs Kate Little and Claire Poyser.

The new entity will sit alongside Lime’s other divisions: drama and young adult, led by Louise Sutton; Hollyoaks and continuing drama, under Bryan Kirkwood; and non-scripted programmes, under Sarah Tyekiff.

The company already has a number of youth-skewing series on its slate including Free Rein (Netflix), The Evermoor Chronicles (Disney), House of Anubis (Nickelodeon) and Rockets Island (CBBC).

The new department will be based at Lime’s production base in Liverpool.

Tim Compton

Prior to joining Lime Pictures, Abela directed the award-winning My Parents are Aliens. In 2010, he joined Lime as series director and showrunner on Nickleodeon’s House of Anubis, which ran for three seasons.

Compton developed Lime’s The Well (BBC Switch) and was story producer and core writer on global hit House of Anubis (Nickelodeon). He piloted Rocket’s Island for CBBC and co-created and produced the International Emmy-nominated Evermoor for Disney EMEA.

Together they have just coproduced the third season of double Emmy-winning Free Rein for Netflix.

Abela and Compton said: “There has never been so much opportunity for kids’ programming across so many platforms. We want our programmes to continue to broaden the scope of their world and make them feel, laugh and think.”
