Lime lines up Gould-Bourn’s Mum

All3Media-owned UK producer Lime Pictures has optioned the debut novel from James Gould-Bourn for a live-action series ahead of its publication.

Keeping Mum tells the story of a single dad whose 11-year-old son who hasn’t spoken since the death of his mother in a car crash 14 months previously. Experiencing money problems, the father buys a panda costume to work as a street performer.

When he spots his son being bullied in the park one day and goes to his rescue, his son talks to him for the first time since his mother’s death, unaware that the ‘panda’ is in fact his father. Nervous of revealing his true identity in case he stops talking to him, the father befriends his son in the panda disguise – but he can’t keep up the ruse forever.

The book will be released next June by Orion Publishing, having been acquired for publication by Katie Brown, editor at Trapeze, in a two-book deal. The agreement with Lime Pictures was brokered by Marc Simonsson at SoloSon Media.

Executive producer Louise Sutton (Black Mirror: USS Callister) will develop the series as part of her growing slate of scripted programmes as head of drama and young adult for Lime Pictures.

Lime Pictures is best known for producing long-running UK soap Hollyoaks (Channel 4), which marks its 25th anniversary next year, and is also behind Netflix original series Free Rein.
