Lightning buys up streamer Docsville

Hong Kong-based channels operator and distributor Lightning International has acquired UK-based documentary streaming service Docsville.

Docsville, originally called Yaddo, was set up by former BBC Storyville editor Nick Fraser and award-winning documentary maker Lawrence Elman.

It now forms part of the Lightning International stable, joining multiple other media businesses, representations and content genres. The company says it is the first of several planned ventures by Lightning in the streaming space.

Lightning will be looking to build on Fraser and Elman’s stewardship and widen Docsville’s content offering and reach.

Fraser and Elman will collaborate closely with the service as they continue to produce documentary projects under the banner Docsville Studios.

Lightning International CEO James Ross said: “Nick and Lawrence have created a fantastic platform for sharing some amazing documentaries, from the world’s leading producers and storytellers. We are looking forward to further developing Docsville and delivering it to documentary lovers around the globe.”

Fraser added: “I am overjoyed with the deal. The expertise that Lightning has with channels and content will only add to the already strong offering from Docsville.”
