The new company will be based in Penang and will be responsible for providing production support for existing Left Pocket projects, in addition to creating original IP for its development slate.

Left Pocket, which collaborates with SIVA University in Shanghai to secure upcoming talent, is also planning to work with universities and art institutes in Penang to recruit talent and offer internships. Around 100 staff will be drafted in to the new office over the next five years, Left Pocket said.

Left Pocket CEO Xin Yu said: “It’s an exciting time to be part of the Left Pocket team as we continue to expand and prove our capabilities as a leading Asian 2D studio with a focus on original programming.”

The company, which mainly focuses on 2D animation, is behind Mini Warriors for Tencent in China as well as preschool series Emmy & GooRoo for China’s Youku and broadcaster CCTV. The latter show was subsequently sold in Belgium, Finland and South Korea, among other territories.

Yu added: “We are proud of our achievements, with shows such as Mini Warriors achieving huge domestic success in China, preschool show Emmy & GooRoo selling internationally and several opportunities on the horizon, together with our partners Tencent, Youku and Alibaba.”
