Latman named HGTV president

US factual giant Discovery has promoted an executive to lead its cablenet HGTV following Allison Page’s move to a new venture with Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines.

Jane Latman

Jane Latman has been named president of HGTV, overseeing programming, development and overall strategy for the female-skewing home and lifestyle channel.

Latman has been with Discovery since 2003 and was most recently general manager of Travel Channel, which, like HGTV, became part of the Discovery portfolio when it took over rival Scripps Networks International.

She was previously executive VP of development and research for Investigation Discovery and American Heroes Channel and general manager of Destination America.

Prior to joining Discovery, Latman was a freelance producer, director and writer for projects that included the award-winning series Nurses for Discovery Health Channel and Understanding Obesity for The Learning Channel’s acclaimed series Understanding…

Her latest move follows Page’s departure to the as-yet-unnamed JV between Discovery and Magnolia, the company set up by Chip and Joanna Gaines, earlier this year.

It will comprise the linear TV network and a TV Everywhere app set to launch in summer 2020, with the SVoD service to follow later. DIY Network will be renamed and will feature longform programming with concepts in development about community, home, garden, food, wellness, entrepreneurialism and design.

The announcement of Latman’s move was made today by Kathleen Finch, chief lifestyle brands officer at Discovery, to whom Latman will report. The appointment is effective immediately.
