Latest Nordic noir heads for BBC4

Wisting has previously aired on Viaplay and TV3

MIPCOM: A Norwegian crime drama that originally aired on Scandinavian streamer Viaplay and TV3 in its homeland has found a new home in the UK on BBC4.

Wisting (10×45’) will air on the UK pubcaster’s fourth channel, which has previously been the home to Nordic noir titles such as The Killing and Wallander.

Distributor Banijay Rights has sealed the deal for Wisting, which stars Carrie-Anne Moss and Sven Nordin, on the eve of Mipcom, where the title forms part of its catalogue.

The drama is based on the best-selling books The Caveman (2012) and The Hunting Dogs (2013) by author Jørn Lier Horst. Set in Norway, this series follows a homicide detective – played by Sven Nordin (Valkyrien) – as he wrestles with the most challenging case of his career: the pursuit of an American serial killer.

Hollywood actor Moss, known for her roles in The Matrix and more recently Marvel’s Jessica Jones, plays an FBI agent and co-stars alongside British actor Richie Campbell (Anuvahood, The Frankenstein Chronicles).

The series is produced by Cinenord in coproduction with Good Company Films, Viaplay, Degeto Film, TV3 Norway and Ripple World Pictures. It will air on BBC4 in the UK later this year.

Sue Deeks, head of BBC programme acquisition, said: “Wisting has already been a tremendous success in the Nordic countries, and we have no doubt that BBC viewers will be equally engaged by such a likeable, emotionally complex lead character, and a compelling plot full of twists and turns.”
