LadyBug settles worldwide

Broadcasters in Canada and Australia have picked up forthcoming French action-comedy series LadyBug, coproduced with the Japanese studio behind Dragon Ball Z.

Télé-Québec in Canada and ABC in Australia will both air the 26×26′ series, which is a coproduction between French companies Zagtoon and Method Animation, alongside Japan’s Toei Animation.

International partners on the series include Samg Animation and SK Broadband in Korea, AB International as French coproducer and co-distributor, and French broadcaster TF1.

Distributor PGS Entertainment has previously pre-sold the show, which is set to launch in the second quarter of 2015, to Gloob in Brazil.

Disney Channel, meanwhile, has recently acquired exclusive pay TV rights in Europe, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia, and free-to-air rights in Spain, Germany, Russia and Turkey.

LadyBug follows the story of two Parisian junior high school students who also have superpowers and regularly transform into the bickering duo Ladybug and Cat Noir. Neither, however, knows the other’s true identity.

“In the entertainment industry throughout the world, we’re witnessing girls finally taking on their worthy role as heroes. They are strong and powerful, and LadyBug is part of that,” said Paula Taborda dos Guaranys, head of content and programming at Gloob.
