Komixx claims Muchamore’s Cherub

UK- and LA-based producer Komixx Entertainment has optioned worldwide screen rights to Robert Muchamore’s novel series Cherub.

Komixx has taken rights to develop all 18 novels in the young-adult thriller series into a TV drama.

The first book in series, The Recruit, was published in 2004 by Hodder Children’s Books. The series has since sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 25 languages.

The novels follow the undercover missions of a group of teenage secret agents who work for a division of the British Security Service called Cherub.

Agents live in the real world, slipping under adult radar and getting information that sends criminals and terrorists to jail.

Andrew Cole-Bulgin, group chief creative officer and head of film and TV at Komixx Entertainment, described the deal as “a fantastic opportunity to take on an exciting and gritty thriller series that has already been breaking taboos for young-adult literature, and create a dynamic new drama series for this thrill-seeking generation.”

Komixx recently agreed a deal to develop fellow teen novel The Kissing Booth, by teenage author Beth Reekles, into a feature film for Netflix.
