Kindle options social media thriller

UK production company Kindle Entertainment has acquired the rights to adapt a psychological thriller novel published this year for the screen.

Friend Request is the debut novel by Laura Marshall and was published by Sphere in July.

The story follows a woman after she receives a friend request on social media from someone who was last seen alive at their school leavers’ party over 20 years before.

The book will be adapted by Kate Gartside, whose writing credits include BBC1’s Mistresses, BBC2’s The Challenger and Channel 4’s Born to Kill.

The deal was brokered by Luke Speed on behalf of Felicity Blunt of Curtis Brown Group.

“Laura Marshall’s novel mines the unease we can all feel now that our past mistakes are only a click away from discovery,” said Melanie Stokes, MD of Kindle Entertainment.

London-based Kindle, which received investment from the UK arm of US studio Lionsgate in 2015, recently coproduced its first thriller, Kiss Me First, with Balloon Entertainment for Channel 4 in the UK and Netflix.

Based on the debut novel of the same name by Lottie Moggach, it was adapted by Bryan Elsley and is due to air in early 2018.
