Kew Media Distribution stocks up on scripted

Kew Media Distribution (KMD) is heading to Mipcom with a range of scripted content, including crime drama Cold Call and the latest season of Frankie Drake Mysteries.

The Small Hand: A Ghost Story

Headlining KMD’s slate is standalone supernatural drama The Small Hand: A Ghost Story (1×94’), a copro between Awesome Media and Two Rivers Media for Channel 5 (C5) in the UK.

Written by Susan Hill, author of The Woman in Black, the story follows an antique book dealer and his encounters with the ghost of a small child, which leads his to question his own sanity.

The new drama miniseries Cold Call (4×60’) also features on KMD’s slate. A fraudulent house sale leads an unsuspecting mother to uncover the secrets of a respected businessman’s dysfunctional family, while dealing with her own issues at home.

The show is produced by Chalkboard for C5, with Rebecca Davies and Steven Ross producing, and Gareth Tunley directing. Mike Benson and Sebastian Cardwell feature as executive producers.

Worzel Gummidge (2×60’) will also be made available at Mipcom. Inspired by Barbara Euphan Todd’s novels the two-part series tells the story of a scarecrow coming to life, and has been adapted for a modern audience with the use of CGI.

Written, directed, and executive produced by Bafta-winner Mackenzie Crook, the series is a Leopard Pictures production in association with Treasure Trove, Lola Entertainment and Pidgeon Entertainment Inc. Also serving as executive producers are Kristian Smith, Lisa Thomas, Patrick D Pidgeon and Eric S Rollman.

The third season of Frankie Drake Mysteries (10×60’) will also be travelling to the French coast. The series is set in 1920s Toronto and follows the city’s only female private detectives. Frankie Drake Mysteries comes from Shaftesbury in association with Canadian pubcaster CBC and UK multichannel operator UKTV.

Additionally, the sixth season of BBC1 award-winning drama series Line of Duty (6×60’) is also KMD’s slate this year. The series follows a fictional police anti-corruption unit and comes from World Productions and Jed Mercurio.

KMD is also bringing two new Agatha Christie films to Mipcom, following the success of Agatha and the Truth of Murder, which sold to more than 139 territories.

Agatha and the Curse of Ishtar and Agatha and the Death of X, both working titles, were created by husband and wife duo Tom and Emily Dalton. The first title sees Agatha unraveling a series of mysterious murders on an archaeological dig in 1920s Iraq, while the latter is set during the Blitz in 1940s London. The films were commissioned by C5 and produced by Endemol Shine’s prodco DSP.

Finally, the first drama series from KMD’s partnership with C5 also has a spot on the slate. Clink (10×60’ or 5×120’) is set in a fictional women’s prison and comes from LA Productions.
