Kew Media Distribution has acquired international rights to two new Agatha Christie-themed films commissioned by Channel 5 in the UK.

The Agatha films are created by husband and wife team Tom and Emily Dalton for UK producer Darlow Smithson Productions, part of Endemol Shine Group.

The first film, Agatha & the Truth of Murder, was orderted by Channel 5 and sold into more than 139 territories by Kew.

The two new films are Agatha & the Curse of Ishtar and Agatha & the Death of X, both working titles. The films are in pre-production, with Curse of Ishtar due to air on Channel 5 at Christmas.

Agatha & the Curse of Ishtar sees the author travel to the deserts of Iraq in the late 1920s for an archaeological dig where she uncovers a series of mysterious murders.

The Death of X is set during the Blitz in wartime London as the author decides she must kill off her most famous creation, and in doing so becomes a target herself.

“The first Agatha film in the series was a stand-out, global hit for us and we are extremely pleased that our friends at DSP are now producing two further films,” said Jonathan Ford, exec VP of sales at Kew Media Distribution.

“Viewers are intrigued by Agatha Christie, the time she lived in and the fascinating life she led – not just the stories she created but her own adventures too.”
