Kapow adds punch with FremantleMedia

MIPCOM: Argentinian prodco Kapow has secured a production and distribution deal with producer-distributor FremantleMedia.

Cocineros Mexicanos

As part of the deal, Kapow will have exclusive production rights and representation of FremantleMedia’s entertainment formats in Argentina. In return, FremantleMedia will have distribution rights to all Kapow-produced entertainment formats outside of the country.

The partnership will initially focus on cookery format Cocineros, on which the two companies have collaborated in the past through the creation of the Mexican version, Cocineros Mexicanos (Mexican Cooks). FremantleMedia Mexico produces the show for Azteca TV.

Kapow was founded in 2003 by directors Agustín Sacanell and Lucas Rainelli, and has produced shows such as crime drama Estocolmo for Netflix and many others for Argentina’s public and private sectors, including Televisión Pública, Telefe and Channel 9.

The team will report to Sangeeta Desai, FremantleMedia’s group COO and CEO of emerging markets and work closely with Coty Cagliolo, who was made MD of FremantleMedia Mexico in July.

“We have been looking for an entry point into the Argentinian market for a while in order to strengthen our position in this important Latin American market,” Desai said.
