Job Description:

OVERVIEW OF ROLE
Primary Responsibility:
This position is responsible for developing and implementing various communications strategies to support the network’s ratings, revenue and branding goals. Collaborating with the VP of PR in NY for both AMC and SundanceTV, this position is responsible for increasing brand awareness and driving tune-in through the creation of comprehensive communications strategies and strategic promotions/partnerships designed to reach key external audiences, including viewers, clients, talent, television and filmmaking communities.  This role will also serve as eyes and ears in Los Angeles for the network, observing trends and identifying strategic and brand relationship opportunities.

The position will report into the SVP of PR for AMC & SundanceTV and divide responsibilities with the New York-based VP of PR.  This position will be responsible for leading and driving special projects like TCA, Comic-Con and various festivals and working with visiting executives.  This position will also, from time to time, support some of the PR initiatives for IFC and BBC America, helping to staff events those networks might be holding in LA or covering an in-person or talk show interview with one of their talent.

In addition, this position will work in conjunction with the Corporate and Trade PR Staff to ensure long-term coordination and provide a strong strategic focus to all external messages.

OPERATIONAL ACTIVITIES OF THIS POSITION:
  • Develop and lead consumer press strategies for AMC & SundanceTV
  • Works with SVP of PR, AMC and SundanceTV to develop and supervise the implementation of goals, strategies, tactics and timelines to create PR plans for assigned original programming and network marketing/branding efforts. This includes supporting all original and acquired programming, special programming initiatives, unit publicity, premieres & screenings and network image efforts in the consumer media
  • Execute effective public relations plans through day to day supervision of publicity staff and agencies/consultants
  • Write compelling materials for press kits, stunts, special events and other PR assignments. This includes: marketing and programming press releases, positioning statements, speeches, articles, backgrounders and pitch letters
  • Supervise all aspects of assigned special events, including press stunts, conferences, events, screenings, press junkets, media tours, promotional visits and local marketing activities
  • Responsible for supervision of all aspects of event coordination and for resulting media coverage
  • Leverage Hollywood contacts and relationships to build AMC & SundanceTV’s profile within the industry
  • Day-to-day co-supervision of AMC PR Directors, Managers and Coordinators, as well as outside PR agencies and consultants
  • Work closely with EVP and SVP on any crises related to series assigned, including but not limited to writing talking points, Q&A, statements, etc.
  • Counsel marketing, programming, production and scheduling departments on media exposure to promote the development of an expanded slate of original series, specials and stunts that define the brand, as well as distribution plans that maximize viewership
  • Work day to day with trade PR to develop unified strategies between all Company assets, ensuring that AMC & Sundance TV’s consumer PR goals and activities are in sync with larger corporate goals
  • Work closely with trade PR to identify and strategize solutions for potential long-term challenges for the brand

Key Experiences/Achievements
  • Education – Marketing, Public Relations or Communications
  • 10+ years in entertainment and media
  • Extensive experience in public relations, corporate communications and marketing in cable/broadcast television and feature films
