Jet Black launches Covid-19 feature doc

Toronto-based Jet Black Iris Productions is launching an “investigative thriller” feature documentary examining the decisions that led to the US’s Covid-19 crisis.

Adam Benzine

Directed by Oscar nominee Adam Benzine (Claude Lanzmann: Spectres of the Shoah), The Curve traces the three-month period from mid-January to mid-April when the choices made by the US’s leaders sealed the country’s fate.

It includes original interviews with experts, analysts, researchers, journalists and political figures and archival footage, examining nine key failures made by the US government that allowed an emerging pandemic to become a national catastrophe.

The Curve is screening for buyers this week during the Toronto International Film Festival, with all rights and territories available. Final post-production is currently underway, with the feature doc ready for US broadcast in October.

Tiffany Beaudin (Prosecuting Evil, Man vs Machine) is editor of the doc, while Melissa Hood (The Reckoning, On My Way Out) is associate producer, Diana Warmé (The Skyjacker’s Tale) is line producer and entertainment lawyer Divya Shahani is executive producing.

“My hope is that The Curve will be for Covid-19 what Inside Job was for the housing market collapse. With the US death toll nearing 200,000, Americans are understandably furious. They are demanding to know how this could have happened. And using meticulous research, in-depth context, creatively treated archival and expert first-person testimony, we reveal just that,” Benzine said.
