ITV2, Motion line up Survival of the Fittest

ITV2 in the UK has ordered another entertainment show with Motion Content Group, the ad agency-backed coproduction partner on its recent hit Love Island.

Love Island is set for another season

Survival of the Fittest is being coproduced by ITV Studios and Motion Content Group, the international content investment and rights management company launched earlier this year by ad giant GroupM to fund, develop, produce and distribute premium content.

The format will see a group of young singles living together in the African savannah as they take part in a series of physical and mental challenges to win a cash prize.

Male and female teams will compete against one another, while individuals also go on dates with each other to test their loyalty.

The show has been ordered by ITV’s head of digital channels and acquisitions Paul Mortimer and will be overseen by commissioner for comedy and entertainment Amanda Stavri.

Creative director of Entertainment Richard Cowles will head the series for ITV Studios and it will be executive produced by Andy Cadman, with Martin Oxley executive producing for Motion Content Group.

Mortimer said ITV2’s “younger audience will no doubt relish the escapism this immersive physical gameshow from sunny South Africa will provide next winter. Like Love Island before it, this series’ nightly mixture of fun challenges and burgeoning relationships ought to be must-see.”

Last month ITV2 ordered another season of Love Island immediately following the finale of its most recent run, which was the channel’s most successful format among 16-34s. The seven-week series is coproduced in the UK by ITV Studios Entertainment and Motion Content Group.

The format is distributed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment and the first international version premieres on RTL2 in Germany in September.

Yesterday Kevin Lygo, head of television at ITV, said he has no plans to move the hit reality format to the commercial broadcaster’s flagship channel despite admitting it would get more viewers.
