ITV sets course for Prize Island

ITV in the UK has commissioned Prize Island, a new action adventure gameshow from Endemol-owned Initial, the prodco behind BBC series Total Wipeout.

Prize Island, due to air on ITV1 in 2013, will see contestants transported to a tropical island where they compete in a range of challenges and games for the chance to win the grand prize – a car with £50,000 (US$77,700) locked inside.

The series, which will be hosted by Alexander Armstrong and Emma Willis, will be exec produced by Andy Rowe. The format was created by Richard Osman, creative director at Endemol UK.

It was commissioned by Elaine Bedell, ITV director of comedy and entertainment, and Kate Maddigan, commissioning editor of entertainment.

Bedell said Prize Island would offer “fantastic family fun in a stunning, paradise island setting, and promises a lot of laughs and thrills for our viewers.”

Initial’s other credits include Big Brother (Channel 5), Dating in the Dark (Sky Living) and forthcoming hidden camera comedy series Secret Service (BBC1).
