ITV rides metro with Wise Owl

Metropolis will focus on the Tyne and Wear Metro

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has commissioned the inaugural series from Lime Pictures subsidiary Wise Owl Films, an exploration of Newcastle’s Tyne and Wear Metro.

Leeds-based Wise Owl will produce Metropolis (working title), which follows the staff, passengers and communities whose lives are influenced by the rail network, which serves 100,000 passengers a day along 50 miles of track in the North East of England.

The four-part series was commissioned by Tom Giles, controller of current affairs at ITV, and marks the first order for Wise Owl, which was launched by All3Media-owned Lime Pictures last month.

The new label is led by creative director Mark Robinson, the founder of ITV Studios-owned factual label Shiver, with Stuart Ramsay (Last Laugh in Vegas, The Miners’ Strike & Me) and Kerry Allison (Elton John: The Nation’s Favourite Song, Unbelievable Moments: Caught on Camera) also part of the outfit.

Wise Owl’s first commission comes during a busy period in the unscripted market for Lime Pictures, following the recent order of romance-themed series Dating #NoFilter from E! and the appointment of three new unscripted executives.
