ITV orders thriller by Luther scribe

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has commissioned a four-part contemporary thriller from Luther creator Neil Cross and Fremantle-owned scripted label Euston Films.

Because The Night is described as a “chilling and suspenseful four-part story of murder, and perhaps ghosts,” which was inspired by Cross’s novel Burial.

The plot focuses on well-meaning but directionless Nathan, who has a terrible secret he has prayed would stay buried and which he’s long worked to atone for.

Euston Films and Cross previously collaborated on BBC and Hulu series Hard Sun. This latest project was greenlit by ITV’s head of drama, Polly Hill.

Euston MD Kate Harwood (Hard Sun, Cranford, Baghdad Central) will executive produce the drama alongside executive producer for Euston Films Noemi Spanos (Dublin Murders). Niall MacCormick (The Victim, The Durrells, Doctor Thorne) will direct each of the 4×60’ episodes.

Fremantle will be responsible for international distribution.
