ITV orders Mercurio bomb squad thriller

Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio is teaming up with the show’s leading actress Vicky McClure once more on a new thriller for UK commercial broadcaster ITV.

Mercurio’s HTM Television (Line of Duty, Bodyguard) is producing Trigger Point, a “high-octane” six-part fictional thriller centred on the Metropolitan Police Bomb Disposal Squad in the UK.

McClure will play front line officer Lana Washington, an ex-military experienced bomb disposal operative, who deals with a series of improvised explosive devices in London during a terrorist summer campaign.

The series is written by Daniel Brierley, who is known for writing short films including My Face is in Space, Checkpoint and Graceland. Trigger Point is his first television drama commission.

Mercurio, who co-owns HTM Television with Hat Trick Productions, will exec produce Trigger Point alongside Jimmy Mulville, Mark Redhead and Jessica Sharkey, with Julia Stannard serving as producer. Filming will commence later this year.

I’m delighted to be working with Jed who knows better than anyone how to bring these thrillers to screen and Vicky is the perfect Lana. It’s a fabulous team and an exciting show for ITV,” said ITV’s head of drama Polly Hill.
