ITV Choice lends ear to The Voice

The Voice previously aired on BBC1

ITV Choice Global, the UK broadcaster’s network for Asia, the Middle East and Africa, has secured exclusive broadcast rights to air talent shows The Voice UK and The Voice Kids UK.

The arrangement will enable viewers in those regions to watch the shows less than 24 hours after their UK broadcast.

Having snatched The Voice from rival BBC1, ITV is currently holding auditions for the 2018 contestants and has added UK singer Olly Murs to the judging panel alongside Tom Jones, will.i.am and Jennifer Hudson.

“We believe this is the sort of show that will grow our audience and reiterate our promise to bring them the best of big British entertainment,” said Katherine Wen, channel director for ITV Choice. “It will be shown exclusively on our channels in those territories and is the perfect family entertainment.”

Sophia Yuen, head of content and distribution at ITV Choice, said the popularity of the series proved this deal was a “huge coup” for the channel.

“We want to give it the best possible platform across Africa, Asia and the Middle East and we believe that a transmission so close to the UK premiere will make it that much more exciting for the audience.”

The news follows the announcement at Mipcom earlier this week that ITV-owned Talpa Global would be creating a new version of the talent format, The Voice Senior.
