ITV alum Davey leads BBC’s Comic Relief

Peter Davey

BBC Studios has appointed the former controller of comedy and entertainment at commercial rival ITV as the new showrunner of its Comic Relief charity night.

Peter Davey, who left ITV a year ago, has been appointed by Suzy Lamb, MD of entertainment and music at BBC Studios.

Davey will lead the Red Nose Day production ahead of its return in March next year and oversee the show from a creative perspective alongside a new team.

He will work closely with Ben Caudell, BBC Studios comedy executive producer; Colin Hopkins, executive producer; and Mel Crawford, head of creative for Red Nose Day and Comic Relief. Richard Curtis, co-founder and vice-chair of Comic Relief, continues in his role as executive producer.

Before joining ITV, Davey worked as the showrunner on ITV’s Superstar, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hunt for the lead in Jesus Christ Superstar. He also worked for a number of independent production companies including September Films and Lion TV, creating, developing and producing shows.
