Italy’s Showlab adds Tortuga duo

The Under Underground aired on Nickelodeon in Latin America

Italy-based producer and distributor Showlab has picked up a pair of 2D animated children’s show from Brazilian outfit Tortuga Studios.

The Under Underground (52×13′), about a teenage musician who meets a band of mutants after falling down a hole, has aired on Nickelodeon in Latin America, while fellow kids’ show The Amazing Professor Ambrosius (80×6′) debuted on Disney Brazil.

In related news, Showlab has partnered with another Italian firm, DNA, on children’s show Whiskey & Friends (26×7′).

The show, aimed at two- to five-year-olds, follows Whiskey the spider as he explores nature with his friends, including a pink duckling, a frog and a caterpillar. It has become a hit on YouTube, attracting more than 73 million views and is now being developed as an international online brand.
