Israel’s Gil gets into distribution

Israel-based Gil Productions has unveiled a new content creation and distribution arm that will offer observational docs, reality and comedy formats to the global market.

Gil Formats will operate alongside the existing prodco and will also be based in Tel Aviv. It’s set to launch at Mipcom in October and already has “a number” of new formats across genres including semi-scripted reality and gameshows.

The division, comprising six staff, will be headed by Assaf Gil, founder and chairman of Gil Productions, with the team focused on driving worldwide distribution of both new and existing shows.

A variety of formats have already been developed, including comic gameshow Are You For Real? and factual entertainment programme Capturing the Moment.

Existing Gil Productions formats Basic Instinct and The Life of Maya Dagan will also sit under the new brand, with further titles to be revealed during the next 12 months.

Assaf Gil said the distribution business was “a natural progression” for the company and had been in the works for “some time.”

“We are excited to launch as one of only a handful of players in Israel specialising in distribution and development,” he added.

Gil, which has recently been focusing its efforts on the Asian market, joins the likes of Keshet International, Armoza Formats and Dori Media.
