Int’l nets take Viacom youth series

MIPTV: Broadcasters and channel operators across Europe and in Australia have licensed an array of new Viacom International Studios (VIS) shows targeting younger audiences.

Comedy Central’s new 10-part comedy The Other Two has been snapped up by both UK pubcaster Channel 4 and Australia’s Foxtel. C4 will air it on younger-skewing entertainment network E4, while Foxtel has secured the rights for its Comedy Channel. A second season of the show has already been commissioned following strong ratings stateside.

VIS’s agreement with C4 follows a deal last month with the broadcaster’s VoD platform, All4, which picked up scripted titles from VIS’s Awesomeness TV including new supernatural thriller Light as a Feather plus Sleep Tight, All Night and Love Daily.

Meanwhile, Dutch cable operator Ziggo has picked up two seasons of Light as a Feather as well as scripted series Zac & Mia, Guidance (seasons one and two) and My Dead Ex (season one) for its SVoD service Movies and Series.

France’s Lagardère Group has also taken Zac & Mia and Light as a Feather for its Elle Girl TV channel, adding to its previous AwesomenessTV acquisitions You’ve Been T@gged and Sleep Tight.

Over in the Nordics, Norwegian commercial broadcaster TV2 has acquired MTV’s new reality series Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club for its TV2 Sumo VoD platform.

French commercial broadcaster TF1, meanwhile, has picked up Nickelodeon and Spin Master preschool coproduction Abby Hatcher.

VIS VP of international content sales Lauren Marriott said the company was proud to be able to offer “something for every audience and every schedule.”
