Int’l nets open The Mallorca Files

Daytime drama The Mallorca Files is a BBC/France Télévisions/ZDFneo copro

UK producer BBC Studios’ new crime drama The Mallorca Files (10×45’) has been pre-sold into multiple territories ahead of Mipcom.

Coproduced by Ben Donald’s Cosmopolitan Pictures and Clerkenwell Films for BBC Daytime, the series has been sold into New Zealand (TVNZ), Czech Republic (Prima), Japan (AXN Mystery), Finland (YLE), Denmark (TV2), Norway (TV2) and Sweden (SVT).

Audiences in North America, Germany and France can already access the series as a result of coproduction partnerships with BritBox, ZDFneo and France Télévisions respectively.

BBC First channels across Benelux, Africa and Poland will also be carrying the series.

The Mallorca Files features two seemingly mismatched British and German detectives tackling crimes on the Spanish island of Mallorca.

BBC Studios is also taking scripted properties Sanditon, Traces, We Hunt Together, Guilt, Trigonometry, Life and Good Omens to Cannes.

Sanditon (8×45’) is the first TV adaptation based on Jane Austen’s final incomplete novel. Produced by Red Planet Pictures for ITV and Masterpiece, it tells the story of a spirited young woman who moves from her village to a seaside town.

The period drama is written by Emmy-winning screenwriter Andrew Davies (War & Peace, Les Misérables, Pride & Prejudice).

Crime thriller Traces (6×45’) is produced by Red Production Company for BBC Studios and UKTV and is based on an original idea by best-selling writer Val McDermid (Wire in the Blood, A Place of Execution).

Set in the world of forensic science in Dundee, Scotland, the series explores the world of the Scottish Institute of Forensic Science and Anatomy and follows the work of three women using forensics to solve a murder case.

Guilt (4×60’) is the first drama commission for BBC Scotland’s new digital channel. Set in Edinburgh, it follows two Scottish brothers who, while driving home from a wedding, accidentally run over and kill an old man on a darkened street.

The series is coproduced by Happy Tramp North and Expectation for the BBC.

Good Omens (6×60’/6×50’) is based on the novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman and follows an angel and a demon as they try to stop the Antichrist from destroying Earth. The series is a BBC Studios production in association with Narrativia and The Blank Corporation for Amazon Prime Video and the BBC.

Life (6×60/6×50’), produced by Drama Republic, is executive produced by Roanna Benn, Jude Liknaitzky and Mike Bartlett for Drama Republic and Ben Irving for BBC1.

The series centres on the residents of a large house in Manchester that is divided into four flats and looks at what happens when people step out of their personal space and look into other people’s lives.

Finally, BBC Studios is shopping Trigonometry (8×45’) at Mipcom. A love story involving three people who originally began as housemates, it is produced by House Productions for the BBC.
