Bear Grylls: Mission Survive, which was produced by Electus and Betty for ITV in the UK, won the Best Competition Reality Format while Grylls was also named Best Host of a Television Format.

The show sees eight celebrities face a 12-day survival mission, battling difficult terrain and weather to build shelter and scavenge for food.

The Best Studio-Based Gameshow Format also went to an ITV show – hypnotism series You’re Back in the Room, which is being sold round the world by BBC Worldwide. Spike’s breakout hit Lip Sync Battle was beaten in that category, but did take Best Comedy Format.

French drama series The Last Cop, which aired originally on TF1, took the Best Scripted Format prize.

Over 220 formats made the online final, judged by more than 20 of the world’s leading formats buyers over the past four weeks.

Industry veteran Gary Carter, once of Endemol and FremantleMedia, received the Formats Gold Award presented by C21 Media/EMC and Frapa, in association with MipFormats. The Gold Award is given annually to executives who have made an outstanding contribution to the formats business.

The awards took place at Club C21 in Cannes this evening, with a gala dinner and ceremony hosted by interior design guru Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen who recently teamed up with fledgling UK indie FormatZone to work on a new series.

A full list of the nominees in each category can be read here, and a playlist featuring all entrants is available here.
