Insurrection, Grand Scheme link up

LA-based production outfit Insurrection Media has linked up with three producers from UK firm Grand Scheme Media to develop and produce dramas for European networks and streamers.

Former BBC and Channel 4 exec Graham Smith, ex-ITV producer Mark Robson and former Chrysalis Television CEO Tony Orsten will all join Insurrection’s development efforts.

Ex-Village Roadshow exec Jordanna Fraiberg, who is now head of development at Insurrection, will oversee the UK division alongside the company’s general counsel and head of production Deborah Henderson, who previously worked at Zodiak Americas.

Insurrection was launched by former Fox exec Kiliaen Van Rensselaer in 2015 and in the same year struck a multi-year production partnership with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and David Alpert of Skybound Entertainment.

Its pilot slate includes a coproduction with Keshet Studios based on novel trilogy The Dead Girls Detective Agency from HarperCollins, with which the prodco has a strategic relationship that gives it rights to selected sci-fi, drama and comedy novels for TV.

Charlie Redmayne, CEO at HarperCollins UK, said he wanted “to build on the US collaboration between Insurrection and HarperCollins by jointly identifying and developing key UK imprints into compelling television shows.”

He added: “I’ve been impressed with Kiliaen’s vision of a faster pace and a more agile approach to TV development and look forward to launching hits based on our authors’ exceptional stories.”

Insurrection is also behind comedy Drive Share, produced for Verizon’s mobile-first on demand service Go90.
