Insight TV, G2 play FIFA 21

Carlos ‘Ocelote’ Rodriguez is among the Making the Squad judges

Netherlands-based ultra-HD broadcaster Insight TV has partnered with an eSports company to coproduce a competition reality series based on Electronic Arts’ latest FIFA football game.

Making the Squad: FIFA Edition will see players compete for a spot on the G2 eSports team by testing their skills both on their consoles and in real life, with the winner taking €10,000 ($118,000).

The eight-part series is based on the new FIFA 21 game and is currently in pre-production.

The show will also feature interviews with participants and visits to their home towns, with contestants getting the opportunity to meet and be mentored by top eSports players.

G2 CEO/founder and eSports player Carlos ‘Ocelote’ Rodriguez will appear as a judge on the show. Casting for participants is under way and contestants will train at the G2 eSports academy in Berlin.

“What makes this series so unique is the fact that it bridges the virtual and real football worlds, tasking competitors to apply the skills they learn in each challenge to win,” said Arun Maljaars, VP of content and channels at Insight TV.
