Iflix takes bite out of Hot Ones

Malaysia-based SVoD service iflix is partnering with digital media company Complex Networks to produce a number of the latter’s formats for local audiences.

As part of the agreement, the new series will be freely available for iflix audiences on a newly created premium channel called Complex.

The first show adapted is Hot Ones, a viral interview show where celebrities eat increasingly spicy chicken wings while answering questions. The show launches this fall in Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines and will feature a familiar local host and popular regional hot sauces.

Additionally, iflix audiences will be able to access a range of Complex Networks’ most popular global series. Shows licensed by iflix include pop culture factual series Sneaker Shopping, Complex Closets, Don’t Believe the Hype, Get Sweaty and Price the Hype.

The collaboration underlines iflix’s increased focus on creating content specifically for millennial and Gen Z audiences, a large proportion of which comes from emerging and developing markets in South-East Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Iflix recently teamed up with South Africa-based telecoms company Econet Media Group to launch a digital entertainment platform in Zimbabwe.
