IFC unveils Get Lifted’s Showcase

AMC Networks-owned US cablenet IFC has commissioned an eight-part comedy sketch series from John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Co.

Sherman’s Showcase will be written by Bashir Salahuddin and Diallo Riddle and spoofs musical variety series from the past four decades. Salahuddin plays fictional host Sherman McDaniel and RadicalMedia will coproduce.

Frank Scherma and Jim Bouvet are attached as executive producers for Radical alongside Legend, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorius for Get Lifted.

Salahuddin and Riddle formerly worked as writers on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and also contributed to NBC’s short-lived Maya & Marty.

Sherman’s Showcase will draw inspiration from shows such as Soul Train, American Bandstand, The Midnight Special and In Living Colour. It will feature comic fictional clips of bands and comedians from the 1970s, 80s, 90s and noughties.

Salahuddin and Riddle are also working on a Comedy Central series called South Side. Sherman’s showcase will air on IFC in 2019.
