Jimmy Humphrey has been appointed head of acquisitions at Tinopolis-owned Passion and will begin work from August 1.

The former Banijay International VP of sales and acquisitions will help devise and implement Passion’s content strategy, overseeing the development, acquisition and distribution of programming.

He will report to CEO Emmanuelle Namiech, the former MD of Banijay International, who C21 revealed joined Passion in May following Sally Miles’ decision to leave the distributor.

“I’m absolutely delighted at the prospect of working with Jimmy again and to add him to the talented Passion Distribution team,” said Namiech, who left the sales arm of Banijay following its merger with fellow international production giant Zodiak Media.

“Jimmy brings solid experience across different programming genres, has hands-on global market knowledge and a great understanding of both creative and commercial opportunities.”

Humphrey, who left Banijay International in March, was VP of sales and acquisitions, responsible for acquiring global rights to programmes and formats in the UK and Australia and NZ, as well as selling to Scandinavia, North America and Asia Pacific.

His acquisitions included Billy Connolly’s Tracks Across America (7Wonder, ITV) and BBC’s Phone Shop Idol. He has also had stints at FremantleMedia and Shine International.

Passion Distribution holds series and format rights to the rebooted version of BBC2 series Robot Wars and recently secured a deal with ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland in Germany for the show.
