Hulu raises Black Sails

Black Sails is currently in its final run on Starz

US streamer Hulu has acquired subscription streaming rights to Starz original drama Black Sails.

Hulu will make the first three seasons of the show available immediately and will also acquire the fourth and final run, which was ordered last year and is currently airing on Lionsgate-owned Starz.

The Treasure Island prequel was the first Starz original to go past three seasons, a record since surpassed by Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson’s Power, which was renewed for fourth and fifth runs last year.

Black Sails is set 20 years before Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel Treasure Island and follows the lives of Captain Flint and a young John Silver as they try to survive on an island inhabited by pirates, thieves and prostitutes.

The show was created by Jonathan E Steinberg (Jericho, Human Target) and Robert Levine (Touch) and is executive produced by feature film director/producer Michael Bay (Transformers, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor) and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. Chris Symes and Dan Shotz also exec produce.
