Hulu picks up Light as a Feather

Hulu has given a straight-to-series order to a supernatural thriller originally created for digital storytelling platform Wattpad.

Light as a Feather, a joint venture from Wattpad Studios, AwesomenessTV and Grammnet, is the first Wattpad story to be picked up by the US streamer.

The series was created by Lee Fleming Jr (She’s All That, One Tree Hill), who will executive produce. Jordan Levin, Shelley Zimmerman, Joe Davola and Brett Bouttier are also attached as exec producers for AwesomenessTV.

Aron Levitz and Eric Lehrman will exec produce for Wattpad alongside Tom Russo, Brian Sher and Stella Bulochnikov for Grammnet. Bloodlist’s Kailey Marsh is a coproducer.

Based on Zoe Aarsen’s supernatural thriller of the same name, Light as a Feather has had more than 2.9 million reads on Wattpad.

The story follows a group of teenage girls as they deal with the supernatural fall-out after playing a game called Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board. The 10-episode series will go into production in next month.

In February, Wattpad, Tongal and CW Seed launched the pilot episode of Cupid’s Match, based on Lauren Palphreyman’s story of the same name. Other Wattpad Studios entertainment partners include Universal Cable Productions and Entertainment One among others.

The deal follows yesterday’s news that Sony Pictures Television had acquired the series rights to another WattPad project, horror romance Death is My BFF.
