Hulu links with Twilight author

Hulu is working with US studio Lionsgate and Twilight writer Stephenie Meyer to develop a supernatural-themed series.

The Rook, based on Daniel O’Malley’s 2012 novel of the same name, follows a strong female protagonist who is tapped by the British government to help it defend against supernatural threats.

The project was revealed during a Lionsgate call with analysts, when it also emerged that an as-yet-unnamed UK broadcaster is on board the series.

Young-adult fiction writer and film producer Meyer is best known for her vampire romance series Twilight, which Lionsgate helped turn into a five-movie franchise.

Yesterday US media mogul John Malone increased his influence over Lionsgate when two other companies in which he holds major stakes, Discovery Communications and Liberty Global, each bought a 3.4% share in the producer. Malone now owns roughly 10% of Lionsgate through three of his firms.
