Hulu Japan to attend WHO concert

Sesame Street characters will appear in the broadcast

Hulu Japan has become the latest outlet to board the World Health Organization (WHO)’s virtual concert celebrating and supporting healthcare workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

One World: Together at Home will be streamed for free on Hulu Japan on April 19. Middle Eastern broadcaster beIN Media Group and millennial-focused 4K UHD broadcaster Insight TV have also this week picked up rights to the event.

International networks such as ABC, NBC and ViacomCBS Networks in the US, Bell Media in Canada, BBC1 in the UK, RTÉ in Ireland and Network 10 and MTV in Australia have all previously signed up to broadcast the special.

It will also stream online on platforms including Alibaba, Amazon Prime Video, Apple, Facebook, Instagram, Tencent, Tidal, Twitch, Twitter, Yahoo and YouTube.

The special, produced by Global Citizen, will see celebrities from across the globe come together to help unify and inspire people to take meaningful actions that increase support for the Covid-19 response. The programme will also share the experiences of doctors, nurses and families from multiple countries.

Curated by pop star Lady Gaga, it will feature celebrities such as Alanis Morissette, Billie Eilish, Chris Martin, David Beckham, Eddie Vedder, Elton John, Idris Elba, John Legend and Stevie Wonder, as well as characters from kids’ show Sesame Street.

Leading up to the global broadcast special, there will be a six-hour streamed event on Hulu Japan that will include performances and appearances from James McAvoy, Jason Segel, Megan Rapinoe and Michael Bublé.
