Hulu alum Stillerman sets up TV prodco

Former Hulu and AMC exec Joel Stillerman has launched an LA-based TV production company backed by Endeavor Content.

Stillerman has set up Content Superba with more than 20 years of industry experience under his belt, having developed, produced and written content for TV across several platforms.

He most recently spent a year as chief content officer at US streamer Hulu, which he left in 2018 following an executive rejig.

Prior to that, he was president of original programming and development for AMC Networks in the US, where he oversaw production of shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men and The Walking Dead.

Owen Shiflett will serve as Content Superba’s senior VP of development and production. He previously ran original series production at AMC SVoD networks Shudder and Sundance Now, working on titles including This Close, the first show written by and starring talent from the deaf community.

Shiflett also oversaw Shudder projects including the Creepshow reboot from Greg Nicotero and documentary Horror Noire.

He was previously part of the development team that launched scripted programming at AMC. During his eight-year tenure, Shiflett managed the creative elements of dramas including Mad Men, Hell On Wheels and Halt & Catch Fire.

Stillerman said: “We believe the changes in how we access our content are just the tip of the iceberg. The real change that’s upon us is a reimagining of storytelling itself as these new platforms emerge and evolve.

“There has never been a better time to be the new kids, and along with our partners at Endeavor Content, we’re formally inviting the dreamers, rule-breakers, innovators and inventors to come and play with us.”

Stillerman previously founded indie film and TV prodco Yolo Films in 2003, serving as chairman, and has also worked for Walden Media as a content executive.

Endeavor Content co-presidents Chris Rise and Graham Taylor said: “Joel has worked across some of the most iconic and acclaimed shows on television and his success stems from his willingness to take risks and find unique stories that connect people. We are excited to be joining him on his new venture.”
