Head of comedy Wiseman exits Netflix

Jane Wiseman, VP of original series at Netflix, has become the latest executive to leave the streamer following the managerial shake-up that saw Bela Bajaria take on a new role overseeing global television.

Jane Wiseman

Wiseman, who was head of comedy at the streamer and joined in late 2013, is credited with bringing series such as Grace & Frankie, Ozark and Dead to Me to subscribers as well as overseeing Netflix’s adult animation slate.

The news was first reported by Deadline.

Before working at Netflix, Wiseman was the senior VP of comedy programming at NBCUniversal and Chernin Entertainment. She was also the director of comedy development at Fox.

Wiseman follows VP of original series Channing Dungey and VP of original content Cindy Holland out of the door at Netflix, which promoted Bajaria last month.

Ted Sarandos, who was made co-CEO at Netflix in July, addressed the recent managerial shake-up at the streamer during Mipcom Online+ this week.

Sarandos said Bajaria’s new roles signalled how important local-language original programming and unscripted television would be for the streamer over the next decade as it continues to grow its subscription base outside the US.
